Toward a syntactic theory of < verb-adverbial particle > constructions in contemporary French
Šišmová, Anna ; Jančík, Jiří (advisor) ; Müllerová, Eva (referee)
This thesis entitled Toward a syntactic theory of verb-adverbial particle constructions in contemporary French focuses on the analytical description of these constructions. Syntactically and semantically, they straddle the boundary between periphrasis, syntagma and collocations. From a syntactic point of view, their structure consists of two components, a verb and an adverbial particle. This type of construction is also close to the constructions existing in English and German. It concerns phrasal verbs and verbs used with separable prefixes. For this reason, their structure was also compared with the constructions in French. After presenting a theoretical explanation, the constructions were subjected to a series of morpho-syntactic and semantic tests. On the basis of these tests, it was possible to compile their definition, and thus determine their place in French grammar. The aim of this thesis was to determine the morpho- syntactic status of the above-mentioned constructions in French, and to compare them with similar constructions which occur in English and German. Aspectual periphrases in Italian and their Czech counterparts in the parallel corpus InterCorp Jakub Němec Ústav románských studií doc. Mgr. Pavel Štichauer, Ph.D. Abstract in English This bachelor's work deals with aspectual periphrases in Italian, theirs division and facts, that these periphrases expresses. First, we will be talking about general linguistic and we will define basic linguistic terms along with grammatical categories, we will be working with. Core of this work is collaboration with internet parallel corpus InterCorp, through which one we will divide these periphrases into groups according to the stage of process, that they express. We will be analysing their particularities, their ability to relate with other verbs and their frequency. At last we will talk about translation of these verbal constructions in Czech and we will compare the issues of aspectuality in tenses in both languages. Key words: Aktionsart, periphrases, ingressive, durativ, conclusive, Czech, Italian, parallel corpus InterCorp
The complex predicate in Italian
Galli, Jitka ; Štichauer, Pavel (advisor) ; Obstová, Zora (referee)
The aim of the present thesis is to study the issue of complex predicates and their application in Italian language in order to help students of Italian language to understand the role and possible usage of these constructions. The paper is subdivided in a theoretical part and in applications. The theoretical part defines the basic concept of predication and the types of predicates (the verbal predicate, the verb- nominal and complex predicates). The second part is dedicated to possible applications of the presented phenomenon. The applications are structured in sample constructions drawn from language textbooks and in sample new constructions generated by the rules described in the theoretical part.
Verbal periphrases in the Spanish language
Škopková, Pavla ; Čermák, Petr (advisor) ; Zavadil, Bohumil (referee)
Verbal periphrases in the Spanish language As the title suggests, the object of the thesis is verbal periphrases. In the theoretic part, we dealt with the function of verbal periphrases as a means to convey the nature of verbal action in Spanish. Moreover, we briefly explained the issue of Czech and Spanish verbal aspect. After we familiarized ourselves with the semantic and formal classification of Spanish verbal periphrases in general; taking the volume of the topic into account, we decided to dedicate ourselves in detail to, the periphrasis with the infinitive, the gerund periphrases, and the participle periphrases. In addition, we described the stylistic and regional differences of the periphrasis with infinitive which express the start of action and which were covered in the practical part of the work. Furthermore, we looked at individual infinitive periphrases from the group of modal and aspectual periphrases. In this part of work, we drew from the Descriptive grammar and its terminology. Since our objective was also to compare the situation in Spanish with the one in Czech, we endeavoured to supplement even this theoretical part with the examples from the parallel corpus. We tried to make these examples as representative as possible. Then we described the gerund periphrases, and the participle...
